Weird Movie Wednesday: Child's Play Weird Out Ranking

Hello GoodGuys and GoodGurls, welcome to another Weird Movie Wednesday. This week we are going to talk about Child's Play. There is so much hype surrounding the new movie that not talking about it now would be a missed opportunity. But before we get into the new one, I thought that we would talk about the old ones and bask in their horror glow. I want us all to appreciate the greatness of the original movies. So today I will be ranking the Child's Play movies from least to most weird and I will elaborate why certain movies ranked where on my list. Let's get to it. 7) Child's Play (1988) The original Child's Play is the least weird movie from the franchise. Don't get me wrong, the premise is weird. A serial killer using voodoo to transfer his soul into a doll? Weird. I think we can all agree on that, however it is a true horror film and is my favorite in the franchise. It was truly scary.  This movie was before Chucky got funny. He wasn't known for his

FearStyle Friday: Silver Bullet

Hello, everyone! Another week done, another FearStyle Friday for you. In keeping with the werewolf theme this week, I decided that we would talk about the Stephen King classic, Silver Bullet. Standing as an adaptation of the King's novel, Cycle of the Werewolf, Silver Bullet is a staple in my house all year long. The movie was reviewed by Roger Ebert as either "the worst movie ever made from a Stephen King novella, or the funniest". I think that in itself tells you why I love it. Silver Bullet is about a young boy named Marty and the year he discovered that there was a werewolf terrorizing his small town. After a slew of murders, Marty encounters the werewolf one night while shooting off fireworks. Slowly, he figures out who the wolf in sheep's clothing is, so to speak. With the help of his Uncle Red and his sister Jane, the three of them plan to put an end to the horror with the help of a silver bullet. This movie is really something special, if you ask me. First

Weird Movie Wednesday: My Mom's a Werewolf

Welcome weirdo's for another Weird Movie Wednesday. This week, I thought I would go with a theme, werewolves. It's a severely underrated monster in the horror genre and so I've gone through the archives and found a gem for you. This one was showed to me by my lovely mother and this movie is so hilarious. Not necessarily a horror movie, it's more like a comedy with werewolves and an all around feel good movie. I'm talking about My Mom's a Werewolf. It's classic and such a fun movie to watch with your family. My Mom's a Werewolf is about a woman who is constantly ignored by her husband, mostly because she is a vegetarian and keeps feeding him rabbit food. He stays out and eats meat behind her back. So one day, while she is out on the town to find a flea collar for the family dog, she meets a handsome stranger in a pair of Ray Bans. He lures her into a trance during a lunch date. Meanwhile, her daughter suspects that her mother is having an affair and,

Doubly Happy Anniversary, Bill and Ted and The 'Burbs!

Hey, guess what? I've got a double dose of anniversaries to share with you. Both are 30 year's old, both are absolute fav's, and both are must watches in my book. I'm talking about the classic movies The 'Burbs and Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. I love both of these movies so much, I quote them on the daily. Which shall I talk about first? Let's start with The 'Burbs. This movie is the best, a true cult classic with a star studded cast. We've got the hilarious Tom Hanks, the lovely and late Carrie Fisher, and the creepiest red head I know, Courtney Gains from Children of the Corn fame. And let's not forget one half of the Corey's, Corey Feldman. This movie reeks of 80's and it's great. The 'Burbs is about overworked Tom Hanks as he tries to unwind on his vacation. However, he gets no rest when his dimwitted neighbor convinces him that his new neighbors are murderers. Hilarity ensues as the rest of the suburb tries to lear

FearStyle Friday: My Bloody Valentine's Day V.S Remake

Hello, friends! Happy Day after Valentine's. Today, in honor of the holiday, we are going to talk about My Bloody Valentine and it's remake. Now, we all know my stance on remakes and we are gonna give this a fair shot. I don't necessarily like the remake that much but it is more of an actual remake than an origin story, so that's good. Let's dive into the mine and see how these two differ. The plot of both films is about some young adults throwing a Valentine's Day Party after years of ignoring the holiday because of an urban legend that plagues the town. The legends are found to be true, when a miner comes back for vengeance. Lovers beware, because he and his pick ax are coming for you. Let's talk about the pro's and con's, starting with the pro's of the remake. The very best thing about the remake is Tom Atkins. Tom Atkins is the bomb and if you don't know who I am talking about I am going to point you in the direction of the movies Ni

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Happy Valentine's Day, my sweets! I hope you are all having a beautiful day filled with love, candy, and horror movies. Even if you don't have a special someone to celebrate with you should celebrate anyways. In my way to share the love, I am gonna gift you my must watch Valentine's Day movies list. Show yourself a little love by watching some 80s classics and gorging yourself with chocolates, that's what I'll be doing. 1) My Bloody Valentine (1981) This is a must watch for any horror fan, especially on Valentine's Day. I definitely suggest that you watch the original one, but the remake will do too. Both are filled with slasher fun, an urban legend and a coal mine killer. Totally awesome. 2) Flash Dance (1983) See, it's not all horror. I love, love, love this movie. I watch it every valentines day, I don't know why. It's not really about love, even though there is a romantic subplot. It's more about following your dreams especially wh

Happy Anniversary, Friday the 13th Remake!

Happy 10 year Anniversary, Friday the 13th (remake)! Whoa, I didn't mean to spring this one up on ya. Where has the time gone? Seem's like only yesterday we were all disappointed with a below average remake of a beloved horror icon. I have lightened up on my dislike of remade horror movies recently, but I can't with this one. I am happy that it was remade for an audience of viewers who may not have been familiar with Jason and Camp Crystal Lake but for the rest of us, we were less than stoked. Let's go through this together. Let's begin by stating what this movie really is not really a remake and more of a re-imagining of the original story. I read that original idea for this movie was to give Jason more of an origin story. Not a bad idea if you totally ignore the fact that Jason's origin is given to you in the first movie...and the second...and the third. What I am getting at is that in every Friday the 13th film we are reminded of how Jason came to be. Howev

Weird Movie Wednesday: Jason Goes To Hell

Hello and welcome to another Weird Movie Wednesday! Today's pick is attached to the Friday the 13th remake anniversary and is the weirdest Friday the 13th movie in the franchise. I had to do a little research to see what the majority say which is the weirdest and it wasn't what I expected. Jason Goes to Hell was the winner and honestly I thought it was going to Jason X , but I digress. So, let's talk about this, starting with a quick synopsis. Jason Goes To Hell starts two years after the previous film. It starts with an FBI ambush on Jason Voorhees, resulting in him being blown to smithereens. His remains are sent off to a morgue, where Jason's soul possesses the body of the corner and uses him to escape the morgue. Jason returns to Camp Crystal Lake, killing two police officers and possessing one. It is during this kill and possess routine, that a bounty hunter discovers that only the blood line of Jason can kill him for good. Also, he will return to his supernatu

Happy Anniversary, Warriors!

"Warriors, come out to play." Welcome Warriors to the Warriors 40th Anniversary. This movie is such a cult classic that it has been recreated on The Simpson's and you know you've made it as a movie when that happens. The movie stars Michael Beck, Deborah Van Valkenburgh, and James Remar (see my connection to Xanadu?) and was negatively reviewed back in 1979 as "lacking realism and stilted dialogue". It wasn't until over 30 years later that film critics re-reviewed the film, giving it 89% on Rotten Tomatoes. It seems that people just weren't ready for Warriors back in the 70's, but 40 years later The Warriors gets the recognition that it deserves. The Warriors is about all the Gangs in New York meeting at a midnight summit held by Cyrus, leader of the Gramercy Riffs, the most powerful gang in New York. Cyrus asks that everyone come unarmed to the meeting to avoid violence as he plans to enforce a citywide truce in order to overpower the

FearStyle Friday: Xanadu

Hello and Welcome to my first FearStyle Friday. I have decided to alternate Fridays with a couple of different themes, mostly because I love obscure titles and topics and I feel like I have plenty to say about them. So, expect some Friday's where I talk about old movies, books, or horror documentaries because I have more opinions on those topics. With that PSA all said and done, I present Xanadu . This may not be a horror movie, but it is a movie that not a lot of people have seen. Plus, it has a really rad soundtrack by the timeless and eternally cool sounds of ELO. Starring cult movie titian's Olivia Newton-John, Gene Kelly, and Micheal Beck, Xanadu has become a staple in the Cult Classic genre. Not to mention that it is one of the best roller skating movies of all time. Roughly, the movie is about struggling artist Sonny and his dream to be world famous. Not making any money as a freelance artist, Sonny is on the verge of giving up on his dream when he is asked to pa

Weird Movie Wednesday:Dolly Dearest

Hello, Hello, Hello and welcome to Weird Movie Wednesday. If this if your first time checking out WMW, as it is affectionately known in my note book, today is the day when I pick one of my favorite weird movies and tell you a little bit about it. It is all in an effort to convince you to watch the obscure title. Think of it as my movie diary. Today's pick is one that I kind of have to be in a mood to watch, but when I am I have a good time. The title is Dolly Dearest and I have more than a few things to say about this one, but first a brief summary.                                    *Spoiler Alert* Dolly Dearest is about doll maker Elliot who moves his family to Mexico after having bought an old doll factory there. Nearby lies an old, underground Mayan Tomb of Sanzia or Satan on Earth. Disappointed by the state of the factory, Elliot and his children have a look around, while his wife sets up their new home. While exploring, he finds several beautiful dolls left by the previo

Happy 10 Year Anniversary, Coraline!

Hello and Welcome to today's special Anniversary! I love these, don't you? It makes normal day's a bit more special. Today Coraline is 10 years old! That's 10 whole years of spooking young and old alike with a story that inspires and frightens the inner child in all of us. In honor of this children's horror classic we will be doing a synopsis and review, talking about all the ways this movie delight's and terrify's us to this very day. Coraline is a 3D-stop motion animation that tells the story of Coraline, a 2002 novel by Neil Gaiman. The movie stars Dakota Fanning as Coraline, Teri Hatcher, Jennifer Saunders, and Dawn French (I'm only listing the last two because I'm a huge AbFab fan). It's a dark story about being young and all the complications adolescents brings. Set to a eerie backdrop of a new home and the allure of another world. Not all is what it seems and sometimes, the grass isn't greener on the other side. Our story beg
