Happy Friday the 13th, horror fans and welcome to special FearStyle Friday!!! I know I know, I haven't been on for the last two weeks. Two weeks! I feel so bummed but I have good cause. Life is changing in the best of ways and I haven't forgotten about my loves. So, for right now, until things get more settled, I'm striving to post once a week. Once a week of something awesome. This week, being that it is one of the spookiest days of the year (minus Halloween) I have special treat for you...cookies.
That seems odd, right? What would Friday the 13th have to do with cookies? Well, every year on one of the Friday the 13th's my family and I make Jason Voorhees sugar cookies! I am a huge fan of the Friday the 13th movies and of baking. What a better way to combine my loves than by baking little Jason Voorhees mask? I have the steps for you, if you are interested. See more about it on my Instagram page where I will be posting pictures all day long. And binge watching the Friday the 13th movies of course.
Ok, so you will need to make yourself some sugar cookies. I have a family recipe for some fantastic sugar cookies, but we typically go for break and bakes for the Voorhees cookies. We want them fast and homemade cookies, although delicious, take too long. Whatever you choose they are bound to be yummy.
The next thing you want to do is make a nice icing to paint the mask on the cookies. Normally I make a nice royal icing that shines nicely but I didn't have meringue powder so I found an alternative. If you would like to make some royal icing with meringue powder then all you need is meringue powder, powdered sugar, and water. That's all! Anyways, the one I'll be using this holiday is made of powdered sugar, milk and vanilla. Awesome. Add a little food coloring and presto! You have a nice icing glaze to make your Jason Voorhees cookies. All you have left to do is paint on the patterns of his mask and let them set to dry. If you are fancy you can pipe the icing on the cookie but you don't have to. You can apply it with a knife or a paint brush. Just be sure it is clean.
Now that you have your cookies sit back, relax and binge those gory 80s classic with some cookies to match. Let me know of you have a Friday the 13th tradition. Or if you have mine a try. Take pics, share them, share this, like, follow and stay spooky. And Happy Friday the 13th!!!
