Happy FearStyle Friday, everyone! This week has been eventful...well, for books in my life, anyway. I have mentioned before that I love every facet of the horror genre, including books. And who better brings the horror than Stephen King? I'm a huge fan and have a lot of his books. This week I finished his heartfelt, yet equally horrifying, Firestarter. Let's talk about it.
I loved this book. Loved it. Even the ending, that ever so classic Stephen King ending. Don't worry, I'm not going to spoil anything for you. I want you to read it. I will tell you that I was so happy with the ending that I went back to make sure what was happening was really happening. I know, my details are vauge, so I will give you a jist of the story and divulge some of my fave moments.
The story is about a man who has been apart of medical experiment that resulted in his telekenetic ability. Years later, he and a woman who also attended the experiment, all those years ago, had themselves a little Firestarter. A baby with the ability to start fires with her mind. Through tricks and terror, the father and daughter are on the run from a government operation called the Shop. The pair face lies, mind tricks and, of course, fires. Through their trials, a strong bond is formed between the two and together they try escapes The Shops clutches and make right the wrongs that have been done to them.
One of my favorite things about the story is 'the push'. 'The push' is the father's ability to push people to think whatever he wants them to think or do whatever he wants them to do. He makes them more open and suseptable to suggestion, in other words. The effects it has on the people he uses it on varries and each time is just a little more sinister than the last. The only thing better than that is the firestarter. Such great metaphors are made about the child and her incredible ability, including one about how she could break the world as easily as a dinner plate. Her power was great and when you read the details you will be thinking, "Woah. That was intense". Like I said, I won't spoil anything. Just read it. It is so good.
That's all I have for today. What's your favorite horror story? Let me know in the comments, either here or on any of my social medias. Stay spooky!
