Hello horror fans, hope you are having a fabulous Friday. I don't know about you but I am feeling very musical. Do you like musicals? I know you like horror. How often do we get horror musicals? Earlier this week, on my fave Weird Movie Wednesday, I talked about one of my favorite horror musicals, Dead and Breakfast. And as a genre in total, we do get a few horror musical gems such as Devils Carnival, The Little Shop of Horrors, and, of course, the classic Rocky Horror Picture Show. However, there are some bad ones and that's what we are talking about today. Today we are talking about one of the worst horror musicals I have ever subjected my eyes and ears to. I present you Mr.Bricks: A Heavy Metal Musical.
This is a Troma gem about an ex-con who gets shot in the head and is left for dead. When he awakes, he finds himself confused and trying to find the one who did this to him and his girl. The bullet is still lodged in his head, puzzling his brain and scrambling his memories. Who could of done this? Why? And where is the love of his life? So many questions in need of some answers. Will he find his love? Or does she even want to be found?
The movie follows this muscle bound guy who gets shot and tires to find the guy who left him for dead. As is traditional musical fashion, characters bust out into song whenever there is a change in the story. In keeping with tradition, the characters in this story sing about what is going on. However, they burst out into heavy metal. Most of the songs in this movie are the same from scene to scene. During some scenes, the main character is on a motorcycle, singing his heart out, complete with artificial flames blazing from every corner of the screen. As he comes closer and closer to solving the case that is the bullet in his brain, we are treated to more songs that state the obvious. I have to love it. It is over the top.
The story line is also something to be relished. If the musical parts didn't make sense then get ready for the plot. So, we know that he is an ex-con who was shot in the head and left for dead but that seems to be just the start for this dude. There is trouble around every corner for him. He is shot several times during the movie. Like a lot. And at some point we discover that he is looking for a woman who we assume is his girlfriend. We later finds out that that is not the case. In fact, he is obsessed with her, rapes her (at some point), and decides that he needs to find her and protect her from whoever shot her. They both have some really awful musical scenes, singing about how one wants to find the other and how the other doesn't want to be found. It is all for not, however. She is found and it turns out she is pregnant with his baby. He is delusional. They meet where the movie begins and she puts an end to him. Everything is confusing but by the song she sings at the end we can only assume that's she keeps the baby.
Mr.Bricks: A Heavy Metal Musical is a treat for all. I recommend it to anyone who loves horror, likes metal, and enjoys absurdity. You can watch this movie for free on YouTube if you find you can't resist the metal. Give it a go and tell me what you think. That's it for today. Until next time, stay spooky.
