Happy FearStyle Friday. This week we are celebrating the 60th anniversary of a classic. Not a horror film necessarily, but a film that deserves the respect of all movie goers. Today we are talking about the Marilyn Monroe classic, Some Like It Hot. This movie also stars Jack Lemon and Tony Curtis, you know, the father of Scream Queen Jamie Lee Curtis? May not be a horror film but the trail is certainly there. Some Like It Hot is about two musicians who witness a murder and have to come up with a quick plan to escape Chicago. They decide to dress as women, join an all female Jazz band, and ride the rails on down to Florida. Through classic movie trickery, the men are faced with all the troubles of a female. There's humor, seduction, and a voluptuous blonde named Sugar. Will they make it out unscathed? You will just have to watch to find out.
Some Like It Hot is really a movie ahead of its time. There hadn't been very many movies about men hiding out in drag before this. Today something like this wouldn't even raise an eyebrow, but back in the 50's that was another story. Plus, this movie paved the way for other movies such as Yentl, Tootsie, and Connie and Carla. Some Like It Hot is genuinely hilarious, there is never a dull moment in the movie. From Curtis switching in and out of drag so he can seduce Monroe to Lemon being pursued by an older man, this movie is just fun all the way through. I still can't believe that anyone thought that those two were women. I mean, just look at them.
Some Like It Hot is absolutely one of my favorite movies. It's funny, has nice pace, is sweet, and has a happy ending that everyone can love. I can't think of anything else to say to convince you to give this one a go. If nothing else, watch it because it is a staple of cinema, has an all star cast, and is 60 years old today! If you do want to see it, don't worry, you can pick up a copy just about anywhere. You can find it on YouTube, Amazon, and even your local grocery store. Just do it, you'll thank me later.
I hope you have enjoyed this week's post and I hope you stop by next time. Have a great weekend and stay spooky!
