Hey, guess what? I've got a double dose of anniversaries to share with you. Both are 30 year's old, both are absolute fav's, and both are must watches in my book. I'm talking about the classic movies The 'Burbs and Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. I love both of these movies so much, I quote them on the daily. Which shall I talk about first?
Let's start with The 'Burbs. This movie is the best, a true cult classic with a star studded cast. We've got the hilarious Tom Hanks, the lovely and late Carrie Fisher, and the creepiest red head I know, Courtney Gains from Children of the Corn fame. And let's not forget one half of the Corey's, Corey Feldman. This movie reeks of 80's and it's great. The 'Burbs is about overworked Tom Hanks as he tries to unwind on his vacation. However, he gets no rest when his dimwitted neighbor convinces him that his new neighbors are murderers. Hilarity ensues as the rest of the suburb tries to learn more about their new neighbors. Are they really murders or is this all a misunderstanding? I'm not gonna tell you, you need to watch it. What I am gonna tell you is that this movie is timeless. For me, it feels like home. It has an atmosphere that feels like this could be your neighborhood. We all have that one neighbor that we like but wish didn't stop by so often, another that is a little odd and a bit too quiet, and the kid you thought was gonna do well but ends up painting house's as a side job. I've seen it 100 times.
The plus side to The 'Burbs is that most have seen it, it's pretty mainstream for this type of movie. However, our next movie feels more underground. Not true underground, but I always feel like a lot of people have never even heard about this movie, let alone seen it. But I'm a big fan and am looking forward to part three.
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure is, as the movie implies, an excellent adventure. Starring the ageless Keanu Reeves, everyone's favorite lost boy Alex Winter, and the ever funny comedian George Carlin we are transported through time on a mission to complete a history final. The boys are failing and can't concentrate in History class because they are too busy daydreaming about their band, Wild Stallions. They have to make an A if they wanna pass. All seems hopeless when the boys head down to the Circle K for some brain food. It is here when they are met with their future selves and are told to prepare for a most excellent adventure. You have to see where all they get to go. It's so funny and I can't recommend it enough.
I think that is all I want to say for now, but I do want to add that both of these movies are staples in my movie library. I'll never forget my first viewing and the laughs they have and continue to bring into my home. I just can't believe that they have been around for 30 years. Give them a go, check'em out I can't say it enough. If you have seen it tell me how you feel about them? Do you love them? Of course you do, but you can tell me anyway. Happy Anniversary The 'Burbs and Bill and Ted, you totally rock. And thank you for joining me for another movie-versary. Be excellent to each other and join me next time.
